WORLD BITLESS CHAMPION AMBASSADOR 2018
*** Dawn Westcott & Monsieur Chapeau ***
Dawn's entry photograph showed the personality of the Exmoor Pony. Dawn is another inspirational equestrian working to protect the native UK Exmoor Ponies and is an excellent World Bitless Ambassador.

Monsieur Chapeau is a wild-born Exmoor pony who Dawn and her husband Nick rescued as an orphan foal. After nearly starving and with pneumonia, he made a great recovery at the Exmoor Pony Project to become a fantastic ambassador for his breed. Monsieur Chapeau has rewarded Dawn with his trust and friendship and plays an integral role in helping to socialise other wild-born foals and ponies. Monsieur Chapeau enjoys liberty walks, agility, connecting with visitors and has even been to London to appear live on ITV This Morning, with his best friend, Lady Stumpkin Pumpkin. His story is told in Dawn’s book Wild Pony Whispering .

Founder of Light Rider Bitless Bridles, Cynthia Cooper said:

"I'm so proud of Dawn Westcott in the UK and all she has done with the Exmoor ponies. Not only has she won a championship with Monsieur Chapeau using the LightRider English Bitless bridle, but also with her Exmoor stallion 'Bear' and his champion progeny. What a great ambassador for Bitless In-hand showing you are Dawn and I hope you inspire many others to start their bitless journey too. I've awarded Dawn First place in the LightRider section of the World Bitless Association Ambassadors for 2018, with second place going to Kallie Zeinstra in the USA and third place to Leah Sharp in Australia. Congratulations to all of you for being the best bitless ambassadors!"

Thank you Cynthia Cooper! Once I discovered the English style Light Rider, it literally changed our lives here. Before, there was such a contrast between head collars/halters - and then having to switch to bitted bridles for the show ring and ridden competition/activities. Once I had the Light Rider, it opened up a whole new world with our Exmoor stallion Bear. He visibly relaxes and releases out riding, loved his riding club show jumping and I only wish British Dressage allowed bitless. I love how the World Bitless Association recognises that bits are part of many people's journeys - particularly in competition - and puts emphasis on empathetic, considerate riding, whether bitted or bitless. That's the key - working towards the lightest possible riding and handling whatever equipment you're using. I'm delighted and honoured to be an ambassador for this work. Thank you for everything you do to make things more comfortable and enjoyable for horses and ponies Cynthia.

I'm very pleased to be representing and supporting such a great association and progressive step forwards for empathetic horsemanship globally. Along with a great opportunity to promote the Exmoor pony breed.
