Beautiful Exmoor Ponies - NEW Short Film!
5 minutes of free-living Exmoor ponies looking amazing - enjoy!
Watch the magnificent semi-feral, free-living Exmoor ponies herds running in Exmoor National Park cascading down escarpments, galloping across the moor and coming into the handling pens. They make such an awesome sight!
The ancient, endangered Exmoor pony breed has been grazing the moors for thousands of years and it's here, in their natural indigenous environment, that they retain their True Moorland Type - their beautiful characteristics and their learned and genetic behaviours. And the toughness and resilience to survive whatever challenges the Exmoor environment throws at them.
Each autumn, a small number of quality moorbred Exmoor foals are weaned and need to find good homes. Some fillies are kept in the herds, with a very small number being offered for sale - if you're lucky. All the colt foals must come off the moors and these chaps really do need to find good opportunities. They are great ambassadors to help promote the breed and make wonderful performance ponies, family friends and conservation grazers.
Be prepared to be patient, kind and compassionate with your handling and with the environment you give to newly weaned moorbred foals, and you'll be rewarded with the most intelligent, endearing and characterful ponies!
And be prepared, please, to pay at least a few hundred pounds for foals. Because the herd owners are facing substantial costs in trying to register and passport Exmoor ponies, which have to be covered, if these important moorland herds are to survive into the future. Thank you.
Hope you enjoy this short film!
