Yogi Bear becomes a licensed Exmoor stallion!
Our 3 year old moorbred colt, by Bear, passed his stallion inspection today.
I'm very pleased to announce that our 3 year old moorbred colt, Farleywater Yogi Bear, has passed his stallion inspection and is now a fully licensed Exmoor stallion.
Yogi Bear
is by Bear
, out of Foxglove
, and was born out on Buscombe, in Exmoor National Park, into the South family's Farleywater herd. I remember saying to Kate South, who selected the mares for Bear to cover in 2015, "I very much hope Foxglove has a colt who could be run on to see if he has stallion potential." And she did.
Yogi Bear
joined Holtball Herd 11 after coming off the moor (eventually!). His story is told in Wild Herd Whispering
.
Yogi Bear
is very well put together and light on his feet, moving freely and beautifully. He has plenty of bone and clean, straight limbs. He's always been the natural leader of his colt band, with presence and exuberance.
Yogi
has the wildness, zest and intelligent, questioning nature I look for in a stallion. He's retained a natural wariness and is gradually building trust - teaching me in more depth about the nuances of equine/human interactions necessary to make successful progress. Although oozing the wariness of the stallion who must protect his herd and stay ultra alert, he is immensely kind in his interactions with me - never biting or kicking out.
I'm looking forward to evolving a willing, respectful partnership with this young stallion.
