Our Exmoor Ponies in Winter
The sun came out today and it was a great opportunity to take some photos of the Exmoor ponies!
February is always a good time to take stock and see how our Exmoor ponies are over-wintering. The sun came out today and, after all the cold, wet, windy weather, it was a perfect opportunity to see their coats dry and check their condition.
Our Exmoor ponies have access to pasture and shelter and migrate in and out as they wish. They also have access to ad lib dry forage, mineral and salt licks and a range of different surfaces, including alkaline sand loafing areas. So although at this time of year there's not much grass and it can get muddy, this management system helps them to move around, get enough to eat and take care of their coats and feet.
It makes all the mucking out, clearing up and hard work well worth it when the ponies look this good towards the end of winter.

And not an Exmoor, but here is one of our Arabians, who are now completely happy barefoot and rugless and grow the most wonderful winter coats.
