Exmoor Ponies in the Snow!

We had a flurry of snow at the Exmoor Pony Project and the herd loved it

Exmoor ponies are one of the UK's oldest native pony breeds and they are endangered. At the Exmoor Pony Project
we are helping to safeguard and promote the Exmoor breed and we have over thirty ponies here in the herd. This weekend we had a flurry of snow and as you can see, the herd provided some lovely photo opportunities!
The ponies have 24/7 access from their pasture areas, to bark chip corrals and large barn loafing areas, where we use fine quality alkaline sea sand to give them a good surface to rest and relax on. It's also excellent to help maintain good hoof condition and remove mud from their coats. The herd also has access to hay in large tractor tyres, which helps maintain a healthy gut as the grass is affected by frost and sometimes snow.
You can see their barn space and environment in the short video below.
Every effort is going into maintaining and safeguarding this herd and continuing to work with and help other herd and pony owners to promote the breed, the ponies and help find opportunities for ponies where needed.
