Our Exmoor Pony Experience becomes part of the National Park Experiences Collection
We're delighted to announce that Exmoor Pony Project
has been chosen to join The National Parks Experiences Collection with our wonderful Exmoor Pony Experience
and we'll be offering dates, as the Covid situation allows, from June through to September.
The Exmoor Pony Experience
Meet the captivating Exmoor pony herd at Nick and Dawn Westcott's Exmoor farm, adjacent to the beautiful Dunkery Commons moorland, who feature in Dawn's Wild Pony Whispering books - including adorable Monsieur Chapeau who was rescued from the moor as an orphan foal.
Over thirty Exmoor ponies from a range of moorland herds live together naturally in a large herd and Dawn specialises in liberty connection, which includes the herd coming to her call. Exmoor ponies are one of Great Britain's oldest native pony breeds - and they are endangered. The Exmoor Pony Project
helps to safeguard, find opportunities and promote better understanding and treatment of the ponies.
After a welcome and chat about Exmoor ponies - including how they’re equipped to survive the challenges of Exmoor and how this unique herd helps to support the project by producing Exmoor Compost
for gardeners - Dawn will call the herd for you to meet the ponies. The pen panels will enable you to experience their captivating herd energy and interactions from a safe perspective. This is really like being amongst the herd and you'll discover the unique characteristics and personalities of Exmoor ponies close up.
There will be time for you to watch and connect with the ponies, which many people find an enriching and enchanting experience.
We’ll have light refreshments including tea, coffee and cake. Personalised, signed copies of Dawn’s books (published in hardback: Wild Pony Whispering, Wild Stallion Whispering
and Wild Herd Whispering)
and bags of well-matured Exmoor Compost
for the garden will be available to purchase.
